About Rockport
Rockport Shoes started in 1971 when Saul and Bruce Katz became the first shoe manufacturers to use technology typically reserved for athletic shoes in casual shoes. In 1983, the company once again hit a first by becoming the first company to use that same type of technology in a dressy shoe for men. That shoe, dubbed DressSports, was given traditional dress shoe styling for the uppers and an athletic sole.
To show how comfortable the DressSports shoes really were, Rockport Vice President Tony Post ran the New York City marathon wearing his own DressSports shoes in 1990. That stunt would be repeated in 2008 when eight other athletes wore the new and improved DressSports to run various marathons. Those new shoes were made to weigh in at less than the average athletic shoe.
In addition to the unique DressSports shoes, the company launched a line of nautical footwear in 1994. Rockport joined the Adidas Group in 2006.

More Ways to Save with Rockport
Whether you are shopping at a retail store, an outlet store or buying your favorite Rockport shoes at another store, there are always other ways to save money. Most obviously, you should wait for a sale, but sometimes a sale does not happen exactly when you need it. Here are some simple tricks and tips to getting the most for your money every time.
- Start with the outlet stores first. Many people make the mistake of thinking that outlet stores only carry the second rate or out of season items when this is not true. You can get deeper discounts on end of season items, but there are other items there as well.
- Look for discount codes and coupons. Most stores do offer some additional savings on items if you are part of their email list or if you follow them on social media. Simply clicking a button on Facebook could net you additional savings on your next purchase.
- See if the outlet mall offers any type of savings or discounts in general. Some of the larger malls have loyalty memberships that will net you savings on purchases made throughout the mall. Others offer across the board savings for select people such as military members or retired people. Rockport has an AARP discount that gives an additional 20 percent off of select items in their retail and outlet stores.
Buying Shoes Is a Personal Experience
A pair of shoes is only as comfortable as the fit will allow them to be. A pair of ill-fitting shoes is never going to feel good on the feet. Whether they are too big or too small, the wrong shoe can leave you feeling miserable all day and can also increase your risk of injury. For people with certain health problems, a minor inconvenience such as a blister can quickly turn into a life threatening problem.
Before you buy a pair of shoes it is important to try them on with the type of socks you would normally wear and actually walk around in them for a while. Bounce up and down, even take a few jogging steps if they are athletic shoes and really get a feel for how they fit. Only then can you tell if you have found the right shoe for your needs. Sure, you want to save some money and that is why you are shopping in the Rockport outlet stores, but never sacrifice comfort to save a few dollars.
