When you think about being anywhere in the Mississippi, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t shopping, but it should be. Here you will find some amazing shopping opportunities, from outlet malls where you will find great savings on famous brand name products to local markets where you can buy beautiful hand-crafted items that are made locally.
Outlet shopping is a good way to save up to 70% off the regular retail price of many brand names. For instance, you can buy an outfit at a store in a traditional mall then find the exact same outfit at one of the outlet stores at half the price or better. If you are in Mississippi or are planning on taking a vacation to the area, here are some outlet malls you will want to visit:
—Gulfport Premium Outlets – The Premium Outlets brand is popular across the country, and this mall offers 75 stores and five restaurants. You can find great deals on fashions at Aeropostale, Chico’s, Gap Outlet, J.Crew, and more and enjoy a meal or a snack at Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen, PJ’s Coffee & Bakery, and Dippin’ Dots.
—Casino Factory Shoppes – Located in North Tunica, this mall offers 24 stores and a restaurant for shoppers. Find shoes at Factory Brand Shoes; fashions at DressBarn, Lane Bryant Outlet, and Rue21; and have a bite to eat at Don Don’s Sandwich Shop.
—Factory Stores at Batesville – This is a small outlet mall with just 22 stores and one restaurant, but it is a great place to find the best prices on designer fashions. Some of the stores you can shop at here include It’s Fashion, DressBarn, Sunglass Hut, Van Heusen, Leggs Hanes Bali Playtex, and Bass.
—Outlets at Vicksburg – There are 21 stores here, including Claire’s, Bass Company Store, Gap Outlet, Coach Outlet, Carter’s, Gymboree Outlet, Reebok, and more. Don’t forget to stop at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and watch the fun fudge-making demonstrations.
Mississippi Attractions
There are so many things to see and do when you are visiting the Mississippi area that there just isn’t enough space to list them all here. A must-see is Tupelo, the birthplace of Elvis Presley, and of course, if you are an Elvis fan, you have to take some time to visit Graceland. If you want to visit a really cool restaurant, check out Mammy’s Cupboard. This store is actually built right inside a statue of a woman. The 28-foot tall skirt is the eatery itself, which opened in 1940 and is located in Natchez. A definite must-see is Big Storm Bounty Reaps the Whirlwind. This is a series of marine-themed sculptures carved from oak and cypress trees that were still standing following Hurricane Katrina. You will find these sculptures dotted along Highway 90.
Whether you want to go outlet shopping, enjoy the party atmosphere of New Orleans, or take in the beauty of the area, Mississippi is definitely a place that should be on your short list for vacation destinations. You can check out the tourism websites to find the best attractions and create a vacation itinerary that includes sightseeing, adventure, and, of course, outlet shopping.
