About Adidas

Shopping in an Adidas outlet store can be the best way to get authentic Adidas goods at greatly reduced prices. At some outlets, there are options such as buying products that are slightly imperfect or have been sent back from other stores. How much of a selection in sizes, colors or style types you will find in each outlet store might depend on its location, its merchandise turnover rate and other factors.

The Amazing Adidas Company History

Adidas is one of the largest sportswear manufacturers in all of Europe as well as the second largest in that industry in the United States. From footwear to accessories and everything in between, it sells to millions of people all over the world. Items include sports apparel, sports equipment bags, eyewear, watches and other jewelry, socks and, of course, shoes.

In addition to the main brand, there are several subsidiaries that are included under Adidas’s main logo. Those include Reebok, Ashworth and Rockport. Adidas started in a small kitchen founded by Adolf “Adi” Dassler just after the end of World War I. Adi’s brother, Rudolf “Rudi” Dassler, became a partner in the growing shoe manufacturing business in 1924. There were a number of problems with the business, including intermittent power outages, which meant the brothers had to resort to using pedal operated machines to fulfill their orders.

The brothers proved to be marketing geniuses when Adi approached American sprinter Jesse Owens to wear the company’s shoes during the 1936 Summer Olympics. Owens would go on to win four gold medals for the US in those games.

But everything for the company was not perfect, and the two brothers had a falling out just before the start of the Second World War. In 1947, Rudi and Adi officially split as business partners. Rudi started his own sportswear business, which he called Ruda at first, later changing his new company’s name to Puma. Adi continued the original shoe company, naming it Adidas, an amalgamation of his first and last names.

The Top Sellers for the Adidas Company

While there are hundreds of different products sold by the Adidas company online, in retail stores and in their outlet stores, there are some that stand out as their top sellers. Some of the top selling shoes include:

  • The Adilette Slides

    - A simple shoe design launched in 1972, the Adilette Slides look like ordinary sandals with a twist. Designed to give more support than the average slide on shoe, these featured the famous Adidas, three stripe design as well as a number of different options for the sole including massaging nubs or a cushioned comfort insole. These sandals are offered for everyone in a number of color combinations including black and white, pink and white and green and white.

  • Samba

    - Designed and produced in 1950, the Samba was originally designed to be used as an indoor soccer trainer. It is Adidas’ second best selling shoe type and has sold more than 35 million pairs all over the world. The Samba is available in a number of different styles, including the classic black with three white stripes and a number of other colors.

  • The Superstar 2

    - In a 2011 radio poll in New York City, the Superstar was named the best shoe “ever”. Produced in 1969, it only took a few years to become established as the top shoe for the NBA, with three quarters of the players wearing this particular shoe on the court. In the 1980s, it was solidified as part of the hip hop culture when rap group Run DMC performed onstage in them, often without laces. That group released a song called “My Adidas” in 1986 and then made a deal with the company for a million dollars. That marked the first major corporate contract between a company and a hip hop artist. In 2005, the company released the 35th anniversary collection of the Superstars.

  • The Barricade

    - The top selling Adidas shoe specifically designed for tennis is the Barricade worn by tennis stars including Justine Henin and Jo Wilfred Tsonga.

Finding and Shopping at the Adidas Outlets

There are more than 678 Adidas stores in the world including a number of outlet stores. Because each store gets its merchandise from a number of sources, it might be hard to find certain items at the outlets- especially first runs or high selling products. Certain sizes may also be difficult to find. There are more than 372 stores in the US, including a number in areas California and Florida. You will find Adidas Outlet stores listed in a number of malls as well as standalone stores.

  • Sawgrass Mills Mall, Sunrise, Florida -

With more than 350 stores, the mall is huge and has a number of outlet stores including the Adidas outlet store. Others include Barneys New York Outlet, a Prada and a Tommy Bahama Outlet. It is a huge mall with restaurants, theaters and more.

  • Adidas Outlet Stores in California -

In all, there are five outlet stores in the Golden State. The Adidas Outlet store in Gilroy, California is listed as one of the largest in the US. In addition, this store will order items that are not found there from other locations or through the main suppliers for their customers. The prices for these items may not be the same as in other outlet stores.
